Simple, modern and architectural are probably the best words to describe this custom design. The mandate was to create a patio to accommodate the lounge area under a stylized pergola as well as the dining room. We also had to provide a fire zone and connect all these elements to the two exits from the house. So we designed an Azek Landmark patio in French White Oak color.
On this one, the Western red cedar pergola incorporates a full-length planting box as well as the skirt under the patio. The stain color chosen is Sansin Onyx Black. On the side of the pergola, a cedar plank privacy wall cuts off the view from neighbors. However, it does not deprive the view of the people who are on the patio. A retractable shade sail enhances the structure to completely cut out the sun and protect from the rain if the occupants wish.
We chose several In-Lite lighting fixtures to illuminate this portion of the layout. There are Puck 22s in the risers, Sway Lows in the planting box, and Hyves on the ground in front of the privacy wall. On the ground, in front of the patio stairs, we find ourselves at a crossroads. On one side, modern Japanese steps lead to the fire area. On the other, they connect the garage door and the courtyard entrance to the layout. It’s the perfect place to create a visual punch and that’s what we did.
So we added a planting area and a Veradek planter. Once evening falls, the Hyve 22 lights and the Scope illuminate the vegetation. This element provides a spectacular picture on the rear facade of the house. The path that runs alongside the garage is lit with Evo Ground, while the one leading to the fire zone has Hyve 22s, alternated in the pavement. There are also Hyves in the four corners of the fire area pavement.
