These homeowners commissioned us to design a custom plan for their backyard. We needed to include a barbecue area, a dining and lounge area, and a hot tub. They also wanted a shade option so they could enjoy their patio out of the sun. Therefore, we designed a multi-level, stylish terrace.
At the entrance to the house, we created a first landing for the barbecue area. We designed a screen made of Sansin Chesapeake-stained Western Red Cedar to define the space. The main landing houses the dining and lounge area under a large pergola made of Sansin Chesapeake and Onyx Black stained Western Red Cedar. The pergola's design incorporates a retractable shade sail, allowing occupants to control the amount of sun they want. Additionally, a wall with cutouts in geometric patterns creates an interesting visual focal point in the lounge area.
The spa is positioned at the far end of the landing, and a wide step provides easy access. Furthermore, its proximity to the pergola allows for the installation of towel hooks near the spa exit. The patio is made of Brownstone-colored Azek PVC. This material is maintenance-free and, due to its lighter density and pale color, becomes cooler than composite materials.
Gray railings, the Heritage model from Aluminium Distinction, secure the perimeter of the upper landing. They perfectly complement the Chesapeake-stained cedar. Finally, ambient lighting is installed in the risers of the designer terrace to extend outdoor time into the evening.
