This expansive, multi-level terrace fulfills the owners' desire for an outdoor living space to comfortably accommodate 10 to 15 guests in a sophisticated and inviting atmosphere. They wanted a covered dining area as well as a lounge area with sun and rain protection, all requiring no maintenance.

We therefore designed a composite deck divided into three sections. The dining area is the first one you step outside into. It's quite large, accommodating a long table with 10 to 12 chairs while still allowing ample space to move around it. It's finished in Havana Gold from Trex's Transcend Tropical range. This material allows us to maintain the look of wood without the upkeep. A skirting board, also in the same color, closes off the underside for a clean, finished look. This level is covered by a contemporary-style gazebo. The gazebo features composite-clad columns and a panelled roof with integrated lighting to illuminate the area during evening meals.

A screen made of three white aluminum panels with abstract patterns provides privacy for the terrace. Next, contemporary glass railings from Aluminium Distinction secure the other sides. They maintain the unobstructed view and create a sense of spaciousness. A composite railing closes off the side closest to the house, concealing the heat pump located behind it. The next landing is designed specifically for the barbecue. It's one step lower, allowing us to maintain an unobstructed view from the house window while still providing easy and convenient access from the patio door. The landing and railing behind the barbecue are finished in Spiced Rum from Trex's Transcend Tropical line. We chose this color because it contrasts with Havana Gold.

The lounge area is the top level of the terrace. It too is finished in Havana Gold. It provides full access to the courtyard and has a second entrance near the house. A bioclimatic pergola offers protection from the sun and rain for its occupants, should they wish. It is white and has a modern, airy look reminiscent of luxury resorts in the south. The screens, identical to those in the dining area, create privacy in this section. Since they are positioned on either side of this long terrace, they frame the entire space and unify the whole. Trex lights adorn all the steps to create ambiance and extend gatherings into the late evening.
