We designed this contemporary, multifunctional terrace to meet several specific needs. We had to consider the future location of the swimming pool already chosen by the clients. The space also needed to be easily accessible for a person with reduced mobility. Therefore, we limited the levels to a single, well-divided landing to complete this project.
There was already a concrete balcony that we decided to keep. We had it resurfaced to give it a second life. It's in this spot that we decided to position the barbecue so it would be near the patio door. We added a rectangular composite deck in two distinct colors: Ropeswing from the Transcend Classic line and Tiki Torch from the Transcend Tropical line by Trex. The contrast of the two tones creates a separation between the dining area and the relaxation area by the pool.
The entire structure is covered by a gazebo over the dining area to provide protection from the sun and rain. This gazebo then transforms into a cantilevered pergola over the pool area, partially blocking the sun's rays. We constructed the structure from Western red cedar and framed it on one side with a hybrid privacy wall made of cedar with black aluminum louvered panels for added privacy. All other sides feature black Murano railings from Aluminium Distinction, incorporating glass to maintain the view of the courtyard. The railings, built to regulation height, along with the self-closing gate, ensure the safety of the pool area.
We installed composite steps to provide new access to the backyard. Beneath the patio, we then built a skirting board using Sansin Onyx Black stained cedar to add character to the design and unify the mix of materials and colors. Storage was also incorporated underneath, combining practicality with aesthetics.
