This multifunctional terrace design was conceived to suit limited urban spaces. Our mandate was to design an intimate patio to accommodate a dining area with a barbecue, shielded from the view of the many neighbors.

We built a custom bench that allowed us to optimize the space. This enabled us to install a large dining set that easily seats six people, while keeping the walkway in front of the patio door clear. This configuration also allowed us to integrate a bar and a counter with planters for flowers and herbs directly into the patio. These also serve as railings and provide ground-level storage. The handrail is attached directly to them.

To maintain a warm yet low-maintenance style, we opted for composite decking. We chose the Havana Gold color from Trex's Transcend Tropical line. We created a contrast with accents of Western Red Cedar, stained in Sansin's Onyx Black. This modernizes the look. The columns and beams, also stained cedar, complete the design. They envelop the space without blocking the deck from the gentle summer sun. We designed this structure so that climbing plants on the fence just behind it will enhance it over time.

To complete the project, we gave the existing pergola a second life. It now serves as a lounge area in the courtyard. We straightened and reinforced it. To match the new terrace, we stained it Onyx Black. A perfect blend for enjoying an intimate patio, even in the heart of the city.
