This property, located in the heart of Montreal, had a backyard visible to several neighbors. The client entrusted us with the design mandate to create a complete yet private space. Furthermore, the existing balcony and staircase had to remain in place, and we had to integrate them into the new backyard layout. We opted for a TimberTech Legacy Collection patio in Pecan. This material is maintenance-free and closely resembles real wood.

We therefore added a first level under the existing patio, which will serve as a barbecue area. Since it's close to the kitchen and covered, it's the ideal spot for cooking in all weather. Low privacy walls define the space and also conceal the heat pump. In addition, planters can be hung there for growing herbs.

Next, the main landing accommodates the dining area beneath a large hemlock pergola. The timber frame is assembled with angle irons at the corners, ensuring both strength and a stylish look. A privacy wall made of Sansin Onyx Black stained Western Red Cedar is added at the back to screen the view from the rear neighbors. Black galvanized steel cutouts with geometric patterns are placed in the center, creating a striking visual focal point.

Furthermore, we have integrated a retractable shade sail to protect the occupants from the sun. It will also provide privacy from the neighbors above. The large composite bench optimizes the space on the terrace, allowing for an intimate dining area that comfortably seats 10 to 12 people. In addition, the existing wooden fencing ensures lateral privacy. Finally, we have proposed a modern-looking shed that complements the rest of the yard's design to replace the existing one.
