Design description

The primary objective of this project was to design a timber-frame gazebo to house a dining area and lounge. It was to be placed on the existing concrete slab to replace a gazebo purchased from a big-box store. In addition, the existing shed and pool patio were to be renovated to complement the new structure.

We designed a gazebo using planed white pine timberframe stained in Sansin's Espresso finish. It's adjacent to the shed, and its gabled roof complements the shed's shape. The back wall provides privacy for the occupants from the rear neighbors. A central alcove can accommodate decorative elements, creating an interesting and practical visual feature. The stain chosen for this alcove and the ceiling is Sansin's Onyx Black. The contrast between these two tones highlights the structure's components. The asphalt shingle roofing matches that of the shed, tying the two elements together.

For the shed, the idea was to refresh its look without changing its fundamental character. We chose a more modern and neutral exterior siding than the old one: 6" LP Smart Side siding in Quarry Gray. The doors and windows were also updated with more contemporary models. Their black color blends well with the surrounding elements and adds character to the shed. With these modifications, it blends seamlessly into the rest of the landscape.

Next, right next to the gazebo, is the client's pool patio. We suggested adding privacy walls to limit the view from the neighbors. These Hoft walls are made of Western Red Cedar planks stained Espresso, like the gazebo. In the center, a Hideaway Dash cutout adds an interesting visual impact. The addition of Hoft hooks, planters, and shelves makes the space as practical as it is aesthetically pleasing. We also suggested black aluminum railings from Aluminium Distinction to complete the look.
