Composite Terrain collection color Brown Oak

These owners of a new semi-detached home asked us to design a modern patio that would include several living areas. It also needed to connect the pool to the patio and provide privacy from their many neighbors. We therefore designed a multi-level patio using TimberTech Terrain composite decking. Its Brown Oak color perfectly complements the house's siding. This material offers a beautiful, variegated finish reminiscent of real wood, but it requires no maintenance.

The barbecue is located on the landing near the upstairs patio door. It's right next to the kitchen, making meal preparation easy. We placed a composite bar counter right next to it. It provides extra space while cooking. Plus, it's perfect for enjoying a morning coffee or an afternoon drink, since it's elevated and offers a view overlooking the neighborhood. Best of all, it also doubles as a railing.

On the main landing, several zones coexist. First, there's the dining area for 8 to 10 people, situated under a hemlock timberframe pergola. A retractable shade sail can protect occupants from the sun, if they wish. Right next to it, the lounge area allows you to relax by the pool while still being able to chat with those who are still seated at the table.

Next, a railing with balusters secures the area near the pool, separating it from the rest of the property. To ensure privacy on the main patio, we positioned Western Red Cedar privacy walls mounted on aluminum posts on either side. These walls are finished in Sansin's Onyx Black, which accentuates the modern look of the design. The view to the pool and yard remains unobstructed thanks to black Distinction Aluminum Standard baluster railings.

The patio is also accessible from the ground-floor patio door via a small landing that leads to the yard. From this same landing, a sliding door provides access to an integrated shed. Located beneath the upper patio, it offers ample storage space. Finally, we added lights to the stair risers to create a pleasant ambiance well into the evening.
