This client's main request was to connect the front door of their house to the pool patio. They also wanted a barbecue area with a counter, a dining area, and a lounge area with hanging chairs. The biggest challenge of this design was the difference in height between the patio door and the pool. We had to unify the two while respecting safety standards and circulation areas.
We then designed a multi-level patio using TimberTech Edge Prime+ composite decking in Coconut Husk. First, a lower level near the patio door accommodates the barbecue area with a custom composite countertop. From this level, a staircase provides access to the garden on the right. A second staircase leads up to the front pool patio, and a deck with a pergola is attached to the left. This configuration makes all the areas very close together and easily accessible from one another.
Next, on the main deck, a large pergola shelters the dining and lounge areas in two sections. It is made of Western Red Cedar, stained Sansin Onyx Black. Toja Solo, Trio, Quad, and Knect fasteners for 6x6 planed beams ensure a sturdy structure. A retractable shade sail over the dining area provides protection from the sun. The lounge area is enhanced with black galvanized steel cutouts, Veradek's Parilla model, which also create a distinctive decorative element. With the addition of Veradek Duo Series planters and In-Lite Fusion 22 RVS outdoor lights in the risers, this patio offers a charming and inviting setting.
Finally, to ensure the safety of the pool patio, a combination of railings and a privacy wall surrounds the perimeter. The black aluminum and Murano clear glass railings from Aluminium Distinction offer unobstructed views from the house and main landing, while the privacy wall screens the view from the neighbors to the side. It's a Hoft wall with black aluminum posts and Western Red Cedar planks, stained Rosewood by Sansin. Planters and Hoft hooks can easily be added. To enhance the space, Chakra cutouts from Veradek are added to the center of the wall.
