Design description

Our brief for designing this patio was to create a separate space for the outdoor living area and the pool area. We also had to preserve the existing gazebo and consider the views from inside the house so as not to obstruct them. Therefore, the ideal solution for us turned out to be a terraced patio design.

We built a first level to house the dining and lounge areas. We constructed it using Trex composite decking in the Treehouse color from the Transcend Classic line. Given the gazebo's large size and rectangular shape, we aligned it with the patio door. This way, the columns extend from either side, opening up the view to the yard and pool. We set up the dining area there with a table that seats eight. Additionally, on the same level, we created a custom composite bench integrated into a privacy screen made of horizontal cedar slats stained black. It's ideal for reading while enjoying the sun or for sitting by the fire pit in the evening. We positioned it near the dining area, which facilitates communication between those using the two spaces.

The barbecue and charcoal grill are located on a lower, slightly lower platform so as not to obstruct the view of the pool. We secured this platform with a privacy wall, identical to the one on the other side of the patio. It continues along the pool area. We also built this platform using composite materials, but in Ropeswing from Trex's Transcend Classic line. This lighter color becomes less hot in the sun and complements the Treehouse design. The other sides of the platform, as well as those of the main platform, are framed with black Murano railings from Aluminium Distinction. The glass section allows for maximum unobstructed views.

We finished off the entire lower level with a black-stained cedar skirting. This accent enhances the look and reinforces the blend of colors and materials used in the project. The tiered patio also has two access points to the property: one on the main tier that opens onto the yard, and another on the smaller barbecue tier that leads to the side of the house.
