This client wanted to redesign their patio and requested two proposals for their project. We therefore presented them with a traditional, single-level design and a more modern, two-level deck. The patio needed to be large enough to accommodate a gazebo the client had purchased. We also had to incorporate a loveseat, a dining set, and a barbecue. We maintained essentially the same layout for the elements in both options.
The barbecue is located near the patio door for easy meal preparation. We placed it against a black-stained cedar privacy wall, which limits the view from the side neighbors. The staircase is positioned just on the other side of the patio door, leading directly down to the existing paved walkway. At the client's request, we built wide, long steps with integrated Trex lighting.
The gazebo covers the entire remaining patio space. It shelters the dining room furniture and the loveseat, allowing guests to enjoy the outdoors protected from the elements. Since the clients desired a low-maintenance deck, we opted for Trex composite decking. We created a color scheme by using Ropeswing from the Transcend Classic range for the center of the deck and Havana Gold from the Transcend Tropical range for the edges, steps, and skirting.
We added a door to the skirt to create extra storage space and maintain easy access beneath the patio. The entire structure is framed by Heritage Aluminum Distinction railings. We opted for black with a walnut-colored, wood-look aluminum handrail. This blend of warm and neutral colors complements the house perfectly, creating a modern yet timeless look.
