Western Red Cedar 5/4"x6"

This owner of a semi-detached house in Montreal had as her primary goal to have a very private backyard, given the proximity of her neighbors. She already had a plan prepared by a landscape architect outlining the layout and horticulture, but she wanted a custom design plan for her private terrace created by experts.

We therefore designed a patio for her that respected the dimensions previously allocated by the landscape architect. It's made of Trex Transcend composite in Gravel Path and Tropical Spiced Rum, a maintenance-free material. The contrast between the two tones gives the deck a rather contemporary look. Underneath the patio, the skirting is also made of composite, and we created a storage area accessible from the side.

The layout of the sections is simple. The first level houses the outdoor kitchen and lounge area. The space is private thanks to privacy walls on either side, constructed of Western red cedar mounted on black aluminum posts. Planters can be placed on these walls to enhance their appearance. Over time, the greenery will cascade down, gradually covering the walls. This private terrace offers privacy in several ways.

The second level is dedicated to the outdoor dining area, which can accommodate 6 to 8 people. A large Jardin de Ville gazebo protects occupants from the sun and rain. From this space, a composite walkway provides access to the grounds and the fire pit, located at the back of the yard on a paved surface. Finally, two overlapping privacy walls were placed in front of the heat pump to visually conceal it without restricting access.
