Western Red Cedar 5/4"x6" stained Sansin Onyx

We built this large, elevated chalet-style terrace that extends along two sides of the property, encompassing all the exterior access points on this floor. Its purpose is to provide the owners with a lounge area featuring a sectional sofa, as well as a dining area that can comfortably seat six people. We opted for a contemporary design to harmonize with the architectural style of the property. We left the remaining space open to offer their grandchildren a safe play area where they can be easily supervised by the family. Ultimately, everyone has their own space to enjoy the outdoors as they please.

On the first level, the structure is made of Western Red Cedar columns and beams. We stained it Sansin's Onyx Black. It supports the upper deck floor. We chose to make the deck from Trex composite decking in Havana Gold from the Transcend Tropical range. This material requires no maintenance. In addition, we enhanced the lounge and dining areas with a pergola. We wanted to add character to the space with this pergola, so we built it from cedar stained like the first-level structure. It has two sections equipped with retractable awnings. We wanted to allow occupants to shield themselves from the sun if they wished.

The railing on the side of the chalet is made of cedar and integrated into the pergola. We designed it to provide privacy from the neighbors. We fabricate all the cedar components in our workshop. They are cut, sanded, and stained under optimal conditions that enhance their durability. The other railings are made of black aluminum, the Heritage model from Aluminium Distinction. However, we chose ipe for the handrail to enhance its appearance. Furthermore, we wanted to add a touch of luxury thanks to the natural beauty of this wood.
