Western Red Cedar 5/4"x6"

The clients' primary need was for a two-level outdoor living space. One level was designed for al fresco dining and barbecuing, while the other would house the hot tub. Ultimately, they also wanted privacy from the neighbors, even on rainy days. Our strategy was to create a terrace on each floor of the house. Each terrace was enclosed with a privacy wall. These cedar planks were positioned on the side where they wanted to block the view. The panels were designed with angled planks, allowing people enjoying the patio to see to the other side, while the neighbors have no view inside. We also expanded the floor area on the first level to accommodate the hot tub and a relaxation area.

We then erected a cedar post and beam structure to support the second-level flooring. This flooring is made of composite, a material that has the warm look of wood. Its main advantage is that it requires no maintenance over time. We added Rain Escape, a drainage system for rainwater. This way, water doesn't run onto the lower deck. This patio, adjacent to the kitchen, was the ideal location to create an outdoor dining area and install the barbecue. We also have space to create a seating area with armchairs and a small table. This spot is perfect for enjoying a coffee in the morning or a drink in the evening.

With the homeowners' desire to enjoy their outdoor space even in the rain in mind, we designed a terrace with a gazebo. Inspired by our Modern Gazebo design, it effectively protects the area from the elements. For a seamless look, it's constructed from the same material as the structure on the lower level, perfectly aligning with the existing structure. It's also covered with a shingle roof identical to that of the house. We encircled the perimeter with a black Heritage railing from Aluminium Distinction. Finally, we added an ipe handrail, an exotic hardwood that lends a touch of luxury to the overall design.
