This design fulfills the clients' request for a timber-framed veranda to house their outdoor dining area and relaxation space. The goal was to extend their home outdoors, allowing them to enjoy the summer sheltered from the sun, rain, and mosquitoes. Furthermore, they already had a large concrete surface available for the future veranda.

The shape, height, and roof slopes are designed to avoid obstructing views from inside the house. Therefore, we separated the timber-framed veranda from the house by building a corridor with a lower roof. The structure is made of knotty white pine timber frame, stained Espresso by Sansin. Half walls, also stained pine, surround it to provide added privacy. The ceiling is paneled in pine, also stained Espresso. Mosquito nets close the remaining openings to keep mosquitoes out. The veranda is accessible directly from the house and from the outside via two screened doors. The roof is metal to match that of the house.

The veranda is very spacious. It can easily accommodate a dining table for eight, a high table for two, and a corner sofa with a small table. The barbecue and smoker are located outside the veranda to prevent it from filling with smoke while cooking. They are still easily accessible, however, as they are very close to the house entrance.
