This timberframe veranda was designed to provide an outdoor space sheltered from the sun and rain, adjacent to the house, while giving this city home an urban chalet look. The owners wanted a unique concept that would allow them to enjoy the outdoors regardless of the weather.

We designed this large patio sheltered by an impressive traditional timber-framed veranda. We built it using Western red cedar. The height and roof pitch were calculated to allow sunlight into the house through the patio door, thus maximizing natural light throughout the day. To enhance the chalet look, we opted for wood paneling and railings rather than traditional banisters. The symmetrical shape of the structure, along with the exposed beams and columns, also contribute to the desired effect.

We presented two color choices to the clients. White, which is reminiscent of traditional country chalets and opens up the space, and brown, which is more akin to rustic cabins in the forest and adds character to the layout.
