These clients contacted us to create a new TimberTech composite decking system for the front entrance of their home. The goal was to make it more easily accessible, allowing for the future installation of a ramp for people with reduced mobility. Since the house is far from the paved driveway and not at the same level, we had to be resourceful to ensure everything worked properly.
We designed a stepped driveway with varying levels to create a gentle, consistent slope from the driveway to the house. A side staircase provides access to the yard, and a second staircase leads down to the basement entrance. The entire driveway is constructed from TimberTech Legacy composite decking in the Sapele color, a maintenance-free material. Its texture and variegated color closely mimic real wood. The safety railings are the Standard model from Aluminium Distinction. They are black with a wood-finish aluminum handrail. This subtle detail enhances the look of the railings and complements the color of the composite decking.
Given the height of the landings, we can integrate full-height storage between the support columns. Accessible via a large sliding door on a track, it provides ample storage space. However, we have maintained a clear passageway to allow movement from one side of the area to the other beneath the walkway.
Finally, regarding the access ramp, it can be added later since the slope was calculated with this element in mind. We chose the Mocha composite color to create a visual separation. The landings and the access ramp will each occupy half of the walkway. In due course, a lower handrail will be added to the existing ramps to ensure safe access.
