Black Blocks Privacy Screen
The design brief this client gave us was to create a patio and a gazebo. She also wanted the gazebo to integrate seamlessly with the existing shed to create a pavilion. Furthermore, she envisioned several distinct zones. Therefore, we needed to incorporate a hot tub, a barbecue, a dining area, a lounge area, a bar, and a workspace. We opted for TimberTech decking from the Terrain collection in Sandy Birch and Rustic Elm. Its advantage lies in being a maintenance-free material.
First, we installed a lower level, just outside the patio door, which would serve as the barbecue area. A composite bar counter separates the two levels, creating a food preparation surface in addition to its function as a bar. It can also be used as a home office for working outdoors. On the second level, we created an outdoor dining area for six people. A screen made of Western Red Cedar stained in Onyx Black by Sansin and mounted on black aluminum posts preserves the privacy of the patio. Black galvanized steel cutouts with geometric patterns add a touch of originality to the dining area. Black Murano railings by Aluminium Distinction ensure safety around the perimeter. These glass railings offer an unobstructed view of the backyard.
Furthermore, since the hot tub is located near the house and directly accessible from the deck, it can be used year-round without any issues. The deck's height also allowed us to conceal storage behind the skirting. It's made of Sansin Onyx Black stained Western Red Cedar, like the privacy wall. Finally, the gazebo is situated at the back of the yard. It blends well with the shed, featuring a timber frame of planed white pine stained Onyx Black and a single-slope metal roof. Because the shed is attached, we were able to create an opening on the side and install a television, hidden behind hinged doors. This makes it the perfect spot to create a lounge area that will be sheltered from the sun and rain.
