Design description

The homeowners commissioned us to create a complete composite deck. First, it had to include a barbecue area, a lounge with a fireplace, a dining area, and a shed-style storage space. We therefore designed a Trex Transcend Tropical composite patio for them, featuring multiple levels and distinct zones. We created a color scheme by combining Tiki Torch and Island Mist surfaces.

First, we chose to install a lower level that would serve as a barbecue area. On the neighbors' side, we built a privacy wall, joined by a bar that also acts as a railing. Made of composite material, it will also serve as a cooking counter. Next, the lounge area includes a central fireplace, a large sofa, and an armchair. We've added a large parasol to provide shade. In the corner, we also optimized the space under the lower level to incorporate a small storage area for cushions.

Next, there's the outdoor dining area, which seats 10. It's situated under a large timber-frame pergola made of stained Western Red Cedar. We opted for a blend of Sansin's Espresso and Onyx Black colors. It also features a retractable shade sail to protect guests from the sun. The side walls have black-stained cedar half-walls with a composite handrail and a trio of perforated aluminum panels with geometric patterns. The back side, facing the yard, is secured by a custom-made cedar railing with a composite handrail and black metal balusters, matching the rest of the design.

The stairs leading to the courtyard are wide and illuminated to create a pleasant ambiance. Ultimately, we chose to maximize space by integrating storage into the design. At ground level, beneath the patio that serves as a barbecue area, we built a vertical cedar storage unit with a sliding door. It's large and tall enough to double as a shed. This project is truly comprehensive, no matter how you choose to use it.
