We designed this custom timber-frame shed. It meets the needs of a client who had a lot of recreational equipment and firewood to store. The shed's design had to complement the already impressive log cabin. Therefore, we opted for a white pine timber-frame structure. Furthermore, the wall cladding is knotty white pine to match the desired look. We stained the entire structure in Sansin's Espresso color, a semi-transparent stain that allows the wood grain to show through.
To add a contemporary touch to the design, we opted for a single-slope roof. The brown aluminum roof, along with the matching doors and windows, coordinates with the house. The double doors are practical, as their wide opening makes storing equipment much easier. The high windows, meanwhile, allow for ample natural light inside. Furthermore, the two-part storage unit rests on a concrete slab, and the columns are secured with specialized anchors.
First, the enclosed section of the shed is designed to accommodate bicycles and several pairs of skis. The layout also includes a small workbench, ideal for storing tools and equipment for yard maintenance. Second, the open side section is perfect for stacking firewood, and its depth protects it from the elements, keeping it dry. It's a great design that will prove very versatile over time.
